Third-party closing routes covered in this guide

Select a provider to jump to its setup steps.

The recommended flow

Five clear handoffs from listing to payout.

Keep all material terms in the message thread, and never transfer a domain until the selected provider confirms that the buyer's payment is secured.

  1. 01

    Inspect the listing

Check the domain, asking price, seller profile, ownership-verification status, expiration date, transfer eligibility, and trademark risk.

    Buyer
  2. 02

    Agree in member messages

Record the final price, currency, closing provider, who pays its fees, one-time or installment payment, and whether the transfer will be an account push or registrar transfer.

    Buyer + seller
  3. 03

    Seller creates the transaction

Use the exact agreed terms to create a checkout link, New Lead, or escrow transaction. Send or confirm the generated link inside the existing message thread.

    Seller
  4. 04

    Buyer verifies and funds it

Confirm the domain, price, fee split, inspection period, and official website address before paying. The provider secures or processes the funds.

    Buyer
  5. 05

    Transfer, accept, and receive payout

Only follow transfer instructions shown in the provider account. After the buyer receives and accepts the domain, the provider releases the seller's payout.

    Provider + both parties

Fee comparison

“About 5%” is available—but not on every path.

These are third-party service fees, not DomainNames.io fees. The parties should agree in writing whether the buyer, seller, or both will pay them.

Provider-by-provider

How the seller starts each closing route.

Use only the official provider site. Product availability, verification requirements, payment methods, supported TLDs, and fees can vary by account and country.

01

Afternic

Custom Checkout Link

5%
  1. Make sure the domain has an active Afternic listing.
  2. In the portfolio, open the domain's menu and choose Create Checkout Link.
  3. Select Buy Now, enter the agreed price of $99 or more, and create the link.
  4. Send the generated link to the buyer. After payment, follow Afternic's Transaction Assurance instructions.

Buy Now is 5% with a $15 minimum. Lease-to-own via a Custom Checkout Link is 10% and has separate price and term limits.

02

Spaceship

SellerHub SafePay

3–5%
  1. Open SafePay as the seller, then enter the domain and agreed price.
  2. Choose one-time or lease-to-own and set how the commission is split.
  3. Complete ownership verification and send the secure checkout link.
  4. Buyer selects a payment method and pays; SafePay holds funds until the domain is transferred and received.

Wire and BTCPay are 3%; other supported methods are 5%. A seller-created transaction initially shows 5% and recalculates when the buyer chooses payment. Each party generally has seven days for its current action.

03

Dynadot

New Lead

5%
  1. Sign in, open Aftermarket, then choose My Marketplace Listings.
  2. Select Add New Lead and unlock the account.
  3. Choose Buy Now or Make Offer, then enter the agreed domain, price, and buyer details.
  4. Select Send Lead. Dynadot emails the buyer a purchase link and manages the transaction.

The New Lead commission is 5% on a successful sale. Dynadot says this feature is only for people the seller has already spoken with who agreed to receive an offer; misuse can restrict access. Ordinary public Marketplace sales follow a different 10% fee path.

04

Escrow.com

Domain escrow

2.6%+
  1. Create a domain-name transaction and invite the other party; both parties review and accept the terms and fee allocation.
  2. The buyer funds Escrow.com. Wait for Escrow.com—not a message screenshot—to confirm secured funds.
  3. The seller transfers the domain as instructed and records the transfer in the transaction.
  4. The buyer accepts after receipt or the agreed inspection period ends; Escrow.com then releases the seller's payout.

For $0–$5,000, standard service is 2.6% with a $50 minimum; Concierge is 5.2% with a $100 minimum and coordinates the domain transfer. Standard inspection periods can be 1–30 days.
